The DC Chapter of the Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW)
honored Kathleen McKirchy (r) and Tamika Felder for their "outstanding
contributions to women and labor" Sunday at the annual Gloria Johnson awards
luncheon at the AFL-CIO. McKirchy was recognized for her work as the Executive
Director of the Community Services Agency of the Metro Washington Council,
AFL-CIO and Felder was recognized for her work as founder and CEO of Tamika
& Friends, a national non-profit organization dedicated to cervical cancer
awareness. "These two awardees - who are active union members - are deserving of
their awards because of their long commitment and contribution to the
advancement of trade union principles in our area," says Metro Council President
Jos Williams, who attended the luncheon. "In particular, we are proud of the
Council's own Kathleen McKirchy for her 28 years of loyalty and commitment to
the Metro Council and the Community Services Agency." DC CLUW presents the
awards - informally known as the 'glass ceiling awards' - to women who have been
active in get-out-the-vote, labor education for youth and women's health issues.
