Support Striking Daycon Workers Today!
Friday, April 30, 2010(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
Walk the line with striking Daycon workers this
morning! The workers - members of Teamsters 639 - have been on strike
against the local cleaning supplies company since Monday, with no end in sight.
"We're fighting for equal pay for equal work," says Daycon driver Eugene Brown.
Daycon's current unfair pay scale means that newer workers can never catch up to
longer-term workers, even though they do the same work. Meanwhile, Daycon posts
record profits and refuses to share the wealth with their workers. Metro Council
President Jos Williams will broadcast his usual Friday segment on WPFW 89.3 FM
live from the picketline; 16001 Trade Zone Ave, Upper Marlboro, MD. Please join
him between 8:30A and 10A to show the Daycon workers they're not alone in their
struggle for jobs with justice! The Community Services Agency is encouraging
people to help support the strikers; donations earmarked “IBT Strikers” can
be sent to the CSA at 888 16th Street, NW, Suite 520, Washington, DC 20006.
