Daycon Workers Strike

Fifty-five workers struck Daycon Products Monday morning after contract talks with the cleaning and maintenance supplies company broke down last Thursday. "The company basically told us to take it or leave it," said Teamsters Business Agent Doug Webber, "and then they went ahead and implemented their last offer on Friday." The Teamsters Local  639 members work in Daycon's warehouse and manufacturing plant and drive delivery trucks and have been bargaining for more than four months. The main sticking point is workers' frustration at being stuck at the low end of the pay grade system after years on the job. "Daycon's already brought in strikebreakers so we'll be doing ambulatory picketing and following the trucks on their delivery routes," Webber added. The union has filed unfair labor practices charges against Daycon. - Chris Garlock
