Teamsters May Strike Daycon

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)

With negotiations bogged down after more than four months at the table – and two months after their previous contract expired -- workers at Daycon Products may walk off the job if there’s no significant movement soon. The workers, members of Teamsters Local 639, “have drawn a line,” Teamsters Business Agent Doug Webber tells Union City. Daycon, which provides cleaning and maintenance supplies (it invented Endust) for many area businesses and government buildings, “is trying to force through 1980’s style wages and pay structures,” says Webber. “We’ve got folks who’ve been working 6-8 years and are still stuck at lower pay grades.” Local 639 members work in Daycon’s warehouse and manufacturing plant and drive delivery trucks. Another bargaining session is set for today.
