First Step For DC Inclusionary Zoning
Monday, March 13, 2006(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
Taking the first step to
create a Mandatory Inclusionary Zoning program in the District of Columbia, the
DC Zoning Commission issued an historic ruling on March 10. "We commend the
Zoning Commission for recommending a mandatory policy that will increase the
variety and supply of housing at appropriate locations, thereby improving the
health of our communities and our housing market," said Stephen Wade of the
Campaign for Mandatory Inclusionary Zoning. "However, there are still a few
additions we would like the Zoning Commission to make in the final ruling," he
added. The Metro Council is a founding member of the Campaign "and we commend
our ally Policy Link for steadfast assistance in making this campaign possible,
said Council President Jos Williams. "We look forward to continuing to press
forward on this campaign together." The Campaign for Mandatory Inclusionary
Zoning is asking supporters to submit written comments to the Zoning Commission
in response to their ruling. A summary of the ruling, as well as sample written
comments, are available at www.dclaborarchives.org
