The Washington, DC chapter of Pride At Work will hold its third annual ceremony recognizing local champions supporting civil and workers’ rights on Friday, June 9 to kick off this year’s Capital Pride festivities. “Our annual awards ceremony is an effort to distinguish individuals and groups for their unflinching commitment to union values: promoting social and economic justice for all workers,” said Larry Smoot, DC Chapter Co-President. Focusing on the struggles to protect the rights of immigrants, to claim peace for workers in Iraq, and to attain social and political equality for transgender individuals, the awards will go to the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement, “a crucial player in the current struggle for fair and compassionate immigration reform,” The Coalition to Clarify the DC Human Rights Act, “Because of their work, discrimination against individuals based on their gender identity or expression will be clearly barred in DC law,”  and Denice Lombard, for her instrumental work with US Labor Against The War. The reception will be held from 6-8P in the Samuel Gompers Room of the AFL-CIO Building. For more information, visit www.prideatwork.org
