(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)

Metro Council President Jos Williams was one of just five people to receive the NAACP’s annual “Keeper of the Flame” award at last week’s 38th Annual Labor Luncheon, held on July 19. Named after former NAACP Executive Director Benjamin Hooks, the Keeper of the Flame Award honors outstanding service to support and carry out the objectives of the NAACP labor program, including “making significant contributions to racial equality and fairness in labor.” Williams, a lifelong member of the NAACP, said that he’s “proud to accept this award on behalf of all my brothers and sisters in the metro Washington labor movement – and those who have come before us -- who have been my inspiration in our struggle for justice.”
