Labor's Candidates: Veronica Turner (MD 26)
Friday, August 4, 2006(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
Elected
four years ago when the Metro Washington Council, AFL-CIO led a door-to-door
effort among Prince George’s County union members urging them to put a union
leader in the state house, SEIU 1199 leader Veronica Turner has kicked off her
re-election effort for State Delegate in Maryland’s 26th District. Since her
election in 2002, union advocates no longer have to stand outside the caucus
room anxiously waiting to find out whether their bills will be supported: with
Turner advocating forcefully inside those chambers, she has become labor’s
spokesperson in the General Assembly. As a freshman Delegate, Turner faces an
especially tough reelection fight this year, since Del. Obie Patterson’s
decision to run for State Senate created an open seat with a number of
candidates running hard. District
26 covers parts of Oxon Hill, Clinton & Fort Washington. Read more about
Turner on her Maryland State General Assembly webpage at http://www.mdarchives.state.md.us/msa/mdmanual/06hse/html/msa13995.html
