“Seeing all these people who are here for us has lifted our spirits,” Icline McAdams said at Saturday’s rally for healthcare workers at the Ingleside Nursing Home. “It makes us remember how hard we fought to have a union and why we can’t give up or in.” McAdams and her fellow workers were joined by over a hundred supporters who overflowed the sidewalks in front of Ingleside on Saturday. The workers, who recently organized with 1199 SEIU, are gearing up for a struggle to win a first contract. “We are here because we want Ingleside workers to know they are not alone,” said Kevin McArthur, a healthcare worker from Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, “We have been through these first contract battles and they need to know we are united in their struggle. We are here today and we will be here for as long as it takes.” Added 1199 SEIU Maryland/DC Division Executive Vice President John Reid, “If management continues to ignore its employees and refuses to accept the workers vote to join the union, then we will bring the workers’ struggle to the community.” Photos by Staycie Francisco
