PERB Appointees Lack Labor Experience

Friday, June 20, 2008

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
Three appointees for the District’s Public Employee Relations Board “do not appear to have any background in labor relations,” says Metro Council Political Coordinator Rick Powell, who urges all DC public sector unions to call DC Councilmember Carol Schwartz immediately to sign up to testify at today’s public hearing on Mayor Fenty's PERB nominees. “The Mayor never consulted with the Metro Council on any of these appointees,” notes Powell, “so it’s critical that those most affected by the PERB – which makes critical decisions about organizing drives, arbitrations, unfair labor practice charges and so on --speak up quickly and strongly.” Call Schwartz's committee at 202-724-8113; reach Powell at 202-974-8154 or rpowell@dclaborarchives.org
