The Avalon Theater hosts an advance screening tonight at 8P of “Finding Our Voices,” a new feature length documentary profiling the lives of Americans who have spoken out against the war in Iraq, including Rep. Jim Moran (D-VA) and local activist Rev. Graylan Hagler. Also featured are a grandmother and retired social worker who lost her son at the World Trade Center on September 11, three soldiers who served in Iraq, peace activist Gael Murphy and diplomat Brady Kiesling. The filmmakers capture the six “as they took their dissent of the war to the streets, to police stations, to the nation’s capitol, and even to Iraq. While outlining their struggles, the film interweaves historically significant moments that honor the importance of dissent in a democracy, underscoring the critical need for free speech.” Following the screening, several of the voices featured in the film and the producers will host a Q&A, including Rep. Moran, Adele Welty from 9/11 Families for Peaceful Tomorrows, former soldier John Bruhns and Sue Niederer, Director/Writer Victoria Hughes, Executive Producer Holly Stadtler, and Coordinating Producer/Videographer Laurel Jensen.
