Labor Turnout Urged in MD Special Election Today

Voters in Maryland's 4th Congressional District have a chance to support
labor-endorsed candidate Donna Edwards today in a Special Election to complete
US Congressmember Al Wynn's term. Wynn retired last March after losing to Edwards, who
won an impressive 60% of the primary vote against the 8-term incumbent. Although
the 4th District has a majority of Democratic voters, "we cannot take anything
for granted," says Metro Council President Jos Williams. "Donna faces a
Republican with resources and low turnout could mean that the election is
uncertain unless labor turns out to vote for her.” The 4th Congressional
District includes all of Prince George's County and an eastern portion of
Montgomery County; polls are open from 7A to 8P today.
