DC Jobs with Justice Corner: Award Recipients Announced for 2008 "I'll Be There" Awards

Metro Council President Jos Williams, Foundry United Methodist Church,
Empower DC, and Mary Spencer and Mark Borbely will be honored at the June 12
2008 DC Jobs with Justice (JwJ) "I'll Be
There" Awards. The awards ceremony – in its sixth year – honors individuals
and organizations for exceptional solidarity work in the Metro DC area. Williams
will be honored for his continued commitment to build DC JwJ. Foundry United
Methodist Church will receive an award for their support of union struggles and
efforts to organize day laborers in DC. Empower DC will be recognized for their
work to win greater access to child care for low-income working parents and
defend public property. Mary Spencer and Mark Borbely will be honored for their
long-time activism in support of DC Public School students, parents, and
workers. The awards ceremony will take place on June 12th from 5:30-7:30P at the
AFL-CIO. Space in the program book is filling up fast, but the deadline has been
