Doing something about hunger is as close as your mailbox. Letter
carriers in DC and across the nation will again bring the fight against hunger
to millions of Americans mailboxes tomorrow as part of the 16th Annual "Stamp
Out Hunger" Food Drive. This "drive plays a critical role in America's effort to
aid families in need, especially in providing high-quality and high-protein food
for their diets," says National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) President William H. Young. The NALC -
which coordinates the annual drive - is hoping this year's drive exceeds last
year's record of 70.7 million pounds of food delivered to local community food
banks. "With rising prices for gasoline and food, an unbearable squeeze has been
placed on family budgets, forcing many Americans to seek help for the first time
from community food banks and pantries to get adequate nutrition," says Young.
Donations can be left at your mailbox - before your letter carrier arrives - or
taken to your local post office on Saturday.
