With rising food prices squeezing already-struggling working
families, the National Association of Letters Carriers (NALC) will again lead the march to "stamp out
hunger" with their annual food drive this Saturday, May 10. This year "the need
is very great, with many, many food pantries reporting record numbers of men,
women and children seeking assistance," said NALC President William H. Young.
"And it will only get worse if our economy continues to decline." Over 70
million pounds of non-perishable items were donated last year to local food
organizations, including 72,000 pounds in the Metro DC region. To participate in
this year's drive, just leave your donation of non-perishable food near your
mailbox for your letter carrier to pick up on Saturday, May 10.
