(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
AFSCME Locals 2477 and 2910, which represent workers at the Library
of Congress, signed up 22 new members during National Library Workers Day on
Tuesday, April 15. The two locals designated Tuesday Library of Congress Staff
Appreciation Day as part of National Library Week, when communities across the
nation honor the contributions of the employees who make libraries happen. The
locals set up tables outside the Madison Snack Bar during lunchtime and
distributed "fun tokens of appreciation" and held a free raffle. Non-members who
joined the Employees Union or the Guild received an instant $50 cash rebate on
their dues.
