Indian Workers March on Embassy

Friday, March 28, 2008

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
Chanting "Inquilab, zindabad" ("long live revolution"), 70 Indian workers and their supporters marched into the Indian Embassy Thursday afternoon to demand the Indian government hold high-level talks with US officials to stop the abuses of the guest worker program and take legal action against Signal International. The workers - who arrived after a weeklong trek from New Orleans -- packed into the atrium of the Indian Embassy and told Indian Ambassador Ronen Sen their stories of exploitation at the hands of Signal International (Indian Guest Workers Protest Modern-Day Slavery 3/27/08 UC) . Sen promised that his doors would always be open to the workers, who will hold a rally on Monday outside the White House.
