Health Care Survey Reveals Widespread Pain

"We knew people were hurting but now we know so much more about who they are
and how much pain they are in," says AFL-CIO President John Sweeney as the
AFL-CIO releases the results of "one of the largest opinion polls ever
conducted on health care in the U.S." this afternoon. "Person after person told
us their heart-wrenching stories, saying they just want elected officials to
understand what people are going through," says Sweeney. More than 26,000 union,
non-union, insured, and uninsured workers responded to the AFL-CIO's Health Care for America
survey, with 7,000 submitting personal stories. "The response we received
was stunning enough - both in content and in sheer volume - to redefine the
debate over health care in America, during the election season and beyond,"
Sweeney adds. The AFL-CIO plans to present the survey to local, state, and
federal political candidates and increase political mobilization for candidates
that support real health care reform.
