(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
ATU 689’s James Allen, Jr’s political action activities will be
recognized with the 2007 COPE Award at Saturday night’s 31st Evening With
Labor. Allen, former president of ATU 689, has been extremely active since his
retirement, regularly participating in the Maryland/DC Chapter of the Alliance
for Retired Americans as well as the National Capital Area Union Retirees. In
this capacity, he has assisted with COPE meetings, and helped with
Get-Out-The-Vote, labor-to-neighbor door knocking events, and brought his labor
union values to the Prince George's County Democratic Central Committee, helping
bring about a renewed energy to labor's involvement in the politics of Prince
George's County. Watch for reports on the JC Turner Award for Outstanding Trade
Unionist of the Year and the Thomas M. Bradley Community Services Awards
tomorrow! Evening With Labor tickets are still available: contact Kathleen
