MD Workers Act to Save Salaries

Maryland government workers gathered in Annapolis last Monday to lobby
Maryland State congress members to oppose proposed budget cuts that would freeze
negotiated salary increases for the already underpaid workers, reports the AFSCME Maryland website. “A recent
study by the state of MD revealed that State of Maryland employees are paid on
average 7% less than others” workers in other states doing the same work,”
says AFSCME Maryland. Workers had negotiated increases in salary and benefits
earlier this year, but now state officials are claiming the wage increase is too
much in the face of a major budget shortfall. AFSCME Maryland has also launched
an email campaign to build support for the salary increase. Click here to
