Giant, Safeway Demand Concessions from Workers:
“Little progress” has been made in recent contract negotiations with Giant
and Safeway, reports the UFCW Local 400 website. “The companies are looking for
member concessions which UFCW feels are inappropriate.” Laborers
Rejoin Trades Dept: The Laborers re-affiliated with the AFL-CIO's
Building Trades Department (BTD) last Thursday, March 13. "We're very excited,"
BTD Secretary-Treasurer Sean McGarvey told UNION CITY. "It's good to have them
back at the table and it's a good day for organized construction trades in the
country." Added Laborers General President Terry O’Sullivan, "This is an important moment in our
struggle to increase our market share so that more of the men and women who work
every day to build our countries and our communities can share in greater
opportunities, and to overall grow and strengthen the labor movement in North
America." Evening with Labor Attendance Tops 800: Over
eight hundred tickets have already been sold for Saturday’s 31st Annual
Evening with Labor, reports Kathleen McKirchy of the Community Services Agency.
“Tickets are still available,” says McKirchy. “Also, although the deadline
has passed for ad space in the program book, there is still time to have your ad
included in our photo montage that will run on continuous loop throughout the
dinner.” To order tickets or reserve ad space on the big screen, contact
