Rally Today to Stop Foreclosures
Tuesday, March 11, 2008
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
With foreclosures continuing to rise across the country, hundreds of
Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) members and their
allies will rally today at 12:15P to urge Congress to act to stop the crisis.
“The foreclosure crisis in this country is a result of predatory lending that
went largely unchecked by federal regulators,” says the ACORN
website. “Going forward, industry’s interests must better align with
borrowers’ interests to ensure the safety and soundness of the marketplace and
to protect the home as a source of family wealth.” At the rally, speakers will
call on the Senate to approve the “Foreclosure Prevention Act of 2008” and
will urge House members to co-sponsor the “Emergency Home Ownership and
Mortgage Equity Protection Act.” The rally is part of the National ACORN
Legislative Conference running March 8-13. Limited transportation will leave
from the AFL-CIO headquarters (815 16th NW) at 11:45A. For more info on
