AFL-CIO Triples United Way Giving

Friday, February 22, 2008

With the staff of the AFL-CIO increasing their in-house giving to United Way agencies threefold this year, a record four departments of the national labor federation achieved 100% giving and were honored Tuesday at a luncheon sponsored by the AFL-CIO. "It is fitting that the bar for participation be set high in this building," said Metro Council President Jos Williams, noting that "The AFL-CIO has a more than 60-year relationship with United Way nationally." Williams and Community Services Agency Executive Director Kathleen McKirchy credited the increased success to the leadership of AFL-CIO Executive Vice-President Arlene Holt and the assistance of United Way Labor Participation Assistant Director Judy Parkins. "We are thankful for the generosity of our staff and proud to recognize our 100% givers," said Holt. The departments achieving 100% participation included the Office of State and Local Affiliates, the Office of Public Affairs, the Human Resources Department and the Office of the Executive Vice-President. Most of the donated funds are designated to local United Way agencies, including CSA, which provide services for people in need.
