Filmfest Screens A. Philip Randolph Doc Today

Friday, February 22, 2008

In honor of Black History Month, the fascinating 1996 documentary "A. Philip Randolph: For Jobs and Freedom" will be screened today at noon (lunches welcome!) at the AFL-CIO. The free screening by the DC Labor FilmFest takes viewers on a fascinating tour of 20th-century civil rights and labor history, as it chronicles Randolph's legendary efforts to build a more equitable society, including the mesmerizing footage of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s speech at the 1963 March when Randolph symbolically passed the torch from one generation of fighters to another. Foster Stringer, Director of Civil & Human Rights at the American Federation of Teachers, will introduce the film.
