Talking Up Union Jobs

Monday, February 11, 2008

190 students packed the Annandale High School auditorium last Tuesday to hear Metro DC area union members Herb Harris, BLET Division 482, and Brian Cavey, Insulators 24, speak about union job opportunities. Cavey and Harris discussed various union careers for high school graduates while emphasizing the importance of continuing education. “This is the first major effort by our new Community Services Committee to reach out to high school students,” says Dan Duncan of the Northern Virginia Central Labor Council. “I have heard so many good reports already.” Other speaking tours have been scheduled, including an event with OPEIU 2 members at the end of the month and four other engagements in April at high schools across Northern Virginia.
