Local Labor Commemorates Black History Month

Wednesday, February 6, 2008

Local labor is celebrating black history this month with screenings, online videos, and stories covering local and national topics in black history. ATU Local 689 is featuring a three-part video series – entitled 'The Battle to Desegregate the DC Transit System' – that includes interviews of pioneers of desegregation in the DC transit system and photos of the first African-American operators and office holders in the local. CWA Local 2336’s website chronicles the history of Black History Month, from its origins in Negro History Week in 1926 to the establishment of Black History Month in 1976. Send notices about other local observances to us at streetheat@dclaborarchives.org and we’ll spread the word!
