Noise Bill Vote Delayed After Protest

Friday, February 1, 2008

A "Noise Control" bill strongly opposed by the local labor community has been taken off next Tuesday's DC City Council meeting agenda after complaints that this week's committee vote was taken without proper notice. Council Chair Vincent Gray has assured Metro Council President Jos Williams that the vote won't be taken until a Council committee meeting on February 19. The delay will provide time to organize opposition to the bill, which would impose noise restrictions that area labor activists and civil liberties activists fear could easily be applied to labor and community demonstrations.
