Pressure Increasing for Montco Worker Safety: “Labor unions and worker advocates are criticizing Montgomery County agencies for not moving ahead on a proposal to train county inspectors to help state regulators crack down on workplace safety violations,” reported Margie Hyslop in yesterday’s Montgomery Gazette. As previously reported in UNION CITY, (Waiting for MontCo Worker Safety 1/14/08 UC), “Over a year after the Montgomery County Commission on Health endorsed a sweeping set of worker safety recommendations, supporters are still waiting for county officials to implement the plan's proposals.” Patrick K. Lacefield, spokesman for County Executive Isiah Leggett , told the Gazette that ‘‘We’re trying to figure out how we can interact with MOSH and other actors, including labor. We’re just trying to figure out the best way to do this.” CWA 2336 Staying Wired: A big UNION CITY shout-out to CWA Local 2336, which not only regularly updates its website with Local 2336 news and local labor news from UNION CITY, but sends out a brief email alert every Friday linked to the latest Weekend Wrapup.
