Labor Candidates Win Big at DC Democratic Caucus

Wednesday, January 23, 2008

Local labor will be well represented at the Democratic National Convention after labor candidates – missing a clean sweep by just one – won in last Saturday's Democratic caucus to choose convention delegates. After leafleting urging caucus-goers to vote for labor candidates, William "Bill" Lightfoot and Timothy Thomas won in the Clinton caucus, Cynthia Kain, Pauline Chapman, Betty Smalls and Eugene Kinlow won in the Obama caucus and Hans Johnson won in the Edwards caucus. The final labor candidate, Councilmember Harry Thomas Jr., removed his name from the ballot. Those candidates who won will appear on the ballot with their presidential candidates in the February 12 District primary to determine who will go to the Democratic convention. - reported by Rick Powell
