Jammin' with Woody

Friday, January 18, 2008

Grammy winners Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer, Wammy winner Dede Wyland, along with the Dede Wyland Bluegrass Band and The U-Liners will pay tribute to Woody Guthrie this Saturday. “Woody Guthrie, one of the greatest songwriters of all time, spent his life integrating his art with his activism,” says Joe Uehlein, who adds that Saturday’s show features “the finest in folk, bluegrass, and roots-rock music.” The show is set for the 40th anniversary of the first Woody Guthrie tribute at Carnegie Hall on Jan. 20, 1968, when Pete Seeger, Joan Baez, Bob Dylan – who showed up with The Band and played rock arrangements of Guthrie classics -- and many others took the stage for a historic evening. Saturday’s show benefits the CultureWorks Collective, “dedicated to integrating art and activism in ways that help unite and inspire people to achieve progressive change.”
