DC Cabbies To Strike Over New Fares: DC taxi drivers have announced plans to strike one day a week to protest the new meter system. "What's better? Losing money one day a week or losing our jobs?" William Wright told the Washington Post. Wright is the president of the Taxicab Industry Group, which organized a 1-day cabbie strike last Halloween. The strikes would start in February and were announced in response to new cab fares - which go into effect April 6 -- announced by DC Mayor Adrian Fenty on Wednesday. Cabbies say the lower fares will "damage the commercial viability of the city's 6,000 cabs," reports Joshua Zumbrun in the Post. Click here for the full report.
