Williams to Help Celebrate MLK in Memphis

Metro Washington Council President Jos Williams will join 900 union members and community activists gathering in Memphis this weekend to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.’s life and contributions to civil and worker rights. Among the participants in the AFL-CIO Martin Luther King, Jr. Conference  “Labor and Civil Rights: 40 Years of Keeping the Dream and Movement Alive” will be leaders of the civil rights movement and leaders of the union movement, including Rev. Jesse Jackson, Rev. Al Sharpton and AFL-CIO President John Sweeney. Highlights of the gathering – Thursday, January 17 through Monday, January 21 – will include an address by Rev. Jesse Jackson, a dedication ceremony to donate computer equipment and school supplies to Memphis-area students, and community service with local charities.
