Ad Campaign Supports Stadium Workers: “My future is better because of the stadium work,” says DC resident Neisha Harris in an ad appearing in the Washington City Paper over the next three weeks. The ad – part of the Laborers Local 657 We Build the Stadium campaign -- is in response to increased attacks from non-union contractors on the Washington National baseball stadium Project Labor Agreement (PLA) (DC LABORERS SPEAK OUT FOR PLA 12/19/07 UC). LOC Workers Continue Fight To Protect Rights: After a year of litigation, workers at the Library of Congress are still in a fight to save their rights, reports Saul Schniderman of the Library of Congress (LOC) Professional Guild, AFSCME Local 2910. After the union beat back management attempts to force union representatives to report all representational time, LOC officials set their sights on the privacy rights of workers (LABOR UPDATES 9/13/07 UC). This “is an obvious trampling of the privacy and confidentiality rights of Library of Congress employees,” says Schniderman. “And the implications of management’s proposal are scary. If implemented it would mean that Guild officers and stewards…would be forced to maintain records that could potentially lead to ‘snitching’ on their colleagues.” Click here to read Schniderman’s full report.
