DC Transit Safety Issues Hit Youtube

Monday, January 7, 2008

Transit workers are taking advantage of the latest online technology as they push a transit worker safety bill in the DC City Council. One YouTube video produced by ATU Local 689 uses dramatic archival footage to tell the story of how the local pioneered transit safety in 1968 after a series of bus operator robberies. In another video, Local 689 President Jackie Jeter presents compelling testimony laying out the need for action by the DC Council. The videos are the latest example of creative use of media by local unions; Metro stations are now featuring an ad campaign highlighting the Washington Post's unfair treatment of workers  (POST WORKERS TAKE COMPLAINTS PUBLIC, 1/3 UC).
