Post Workers Take Complaints Public

Thursday, January 3, 2008

Production workers at the Washington Post, fed up with the paper's attacks on their pension plan and five-year refusal to raise their wages, took the battle public on New Year's Eve with an ad campaign highlighting the Post's unfair treatment of workers. "No raises. No parity. No help on health care," said Mark Pullium, President of CWA Local 14201, which represents the production workers. Despite the Post's $324.5 million profits last year, "our workers continue to receive nothing," says Pulliam. "We've been asking for the opportunity to sit down and negotiate a decent contract for our workers for the past four years and the Post continues to stonewall us," said CWA Vice President Bill Boarman. "With this ad campaign, we want the public to hear our side of the story." Hundreds of New Year's Eve Metro riders at Metro Center and Farragut North Metro stations were the first to see the campaign, which will also feature radio, print, city bus and mobile billboard ads throughout January.
