Party Raises Funds for Tri-County COPE

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Over 75 people attended a holiday party on December 7 that helped to raise funds for the Tri-County Committee on Political Education (COPE). “We had great representation from county and state officials and all of the locals from the Tri-County area,” said long-time Tri-County COPE Chairman and event organizer Bill Grooms, member of Operating Engineers Local 77. “This event was a huge success and has helped to continue to build the visibility of labor in the area,” said Metro Council President Jos Williams. The Washington Building and Construction Trades Council, the Food and Allied Service Trades Council, Operating Engineers Local 77, Elevator Constructors Local 10, SEIU Local 500, Insulators and Asbestos Workers Local 24, Road Sprinkler Fitters Local 669, Teamsters Local 639, Laborers Local 657, Iron Workers Political Education Fund, and Plumbers Local 5 all made $300 contributions. “Thank you to all the unions that contributed and a special thanks to Bill Grooms and Anne Marie Capparotta for their work to organize this event,” Williams added. The Tri-County COPE conducts labor political work in Charles, Calvert, and St. Mary’s counties in Maryland.
