Labor School Reform Gaining Support

Tuesday, December 11, 2007

Tomorrow’s vote on school reform has been postponed a week, giving union activists more time to push for support for the labor alternative. Emails urging support for labor’s bill – which Council member Harry Thomas Jr. plans to introduce later this week -- have been flooding DC Councilmembers since the Metro Washington Council and a coalition of school unions launched online and radio campaigns last week. The campaigns were covered in the Washington Post, WTOP 103.5 FM, and on ABC News Channel 8, generating expanded concern and support among the general public about the power grab by the Mayor and Chancellor, who are demanding the unfettered right to fire central office school employees. The school reform legislation will be brought up for a vote on Tuesday, December 18. Click here to take action for fair school reform. - Reported by Rick Powell
