Future of UDC in Doubt

Friday, November 30, 2007

The future of the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) may be in question following the recent ouster of President William Pollard and issues with funding, reports the NEA-UDC Faculty Association. Union members testified at a DC City Council meeting Tuesday about the future of the University where Councilmembers grilled UDC officials about their failure to raise funds for the University and called for the establishment of a community college structure. "There is concern from the community and the unionized faculty about what the future of the status of the University will be," says NEA-UDC Faculty Association President Leslie Richards. "We have continually raised concerns about the Tuition Assistance Grant system that contributes $10,000 towards the tuition of DC residents to attend colleges and universities anywhere in the United States, except at UDC. We simply want an equal opportunity to get funding to educate our own citizens."
