Deen Dogged in DC

Thursday, November 29, 2007

Popular TV cooking personality Paula Deen was dogged by labor activists throughout DC-area appearances to promote her new book today. Almost 15 minutes of her appearance on this morning’s Diane Rehm show on WAMU was devoted to discussing the issue of worker rights at Smithfield Foods, the union-busting pork processor for whom Deen is a paid spokesperson. Then at Deen’s book-signing tonight at the Dupont Circle Books-A-Million, two dozen activists showed up to leaflet Paula Deen fans in line to get their books signed by the celebrity who has thus far reneged on her promises to meet with Smithfield workers.
