DC Board Demo Makes News

Monday, November 26, 2007

The November 15 demonstration at the National Labor Relations Board was featured on NPR, in the Washington Post and on YouTube. Post columnist Harold Myerson likened the Bush NLRB appointees to "the heavies in the novels of Charles Dickens, who invoke Victorian nostrums as they treat their workers like dirt," in a column titled "National Labor Ruination Board" in the November 21 Washington Post. In a November 21 National Public Radio Morning Edition report by Frank Langfitt on how "Unions Find Labor Relations Board Ineffective," Langfitt reported that "The National Labor Relations Board is a federal agency that protects the right of workers to form unions. But many unions say the board, which is dominated by Republican appointees, actually does more harm than good. They recently demanded President Bush shut it down." And several video clips from the rally were posted on YouTube, including Mineworker President Cecil Roberts, AT&T worker Jonathan Upright, and Metro Council President Jos Williams.
