PG Dems Begin Patching Rift with Labor

Monday, November 26, 2007

The Prince George's County Democratic Central Committee (PGCDCC) took a major first step toward patching the recent rift with local labor (PG DEMS HIT FOR ATTACKING LABOR 11/2 UC) last week when it passed two key resolutions demanded by labor activists. The resolutions affirmed the PGCDCC's support for workers' rights to join a union and urged State and County officials to support and create "good jobs which pay family sustaining wages and provide health insurance benefits." Said Metro Council President Jos Williams, "We're very pleased by these actions by our friends in Prince George's County." The second part of the deal to settle the conflict will come January 15 "when PGCDCC leadership demonstrates their support for our slate of candidates for the female At-Large seats on the central committee," reports Rick Powell, Metro Washington Council Political Coordinator. "I was so proud of all the unions who turned out at the meeting, along with their members."
