Fire Burns But Cannot Destroy

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Friends of AFSCME member Chuck Hicks are organizing a fundraiser this Saturday. for the longtime DC labor and community activist after the Hicks family home in Bogalusa, Louisiana burned to the ground on October 23. "Everything was lost, including precious items from the Civil Rights Movement," reports AFSCME District Council 20, which is hosting the event. "An active AFSCME member for decades, Chuck is the founder of the DC Black History Celebration Committee, Bread for the Soul - which donates toys and food to children in families with HIV -- and much more." While no one was injured in the fire, Hicks' elderly parents are now without a home.
