VA Labor Gets Out the Vote

Wednesday, November 7, 2007

“We’re seeing Presidential year turnout this year,” Northern Virginia Labor Council President Dan Duncan said jubilantly as the NOVA CLC office hummed with Election Day activity Tuesday. Enthusiastic crews of union members shuttled in and out throughout the day, door-knocking union households throughout Northern Virginia, while phonebankers kept up a steady stream of Get Out The Vote calls. The effort to elect a pro-worker State Senate and Assembly has been running for the past six weeks, with nearly 1,000 union volunteers hitting the doors and phones for pro-labor candidates. Almost 200 turned out last Saturday and over 130 were on hand today in Northern Virginia as part of a statewide labor effort that could reach 15,000 union voters by the time polls close Tuesday night. “We’ve got momentum,” Duncan told UNION CITY, “Virginia is changing, and it’s great to see so many rank-and-file union members out today, because they know what’s at stake in this election.” Click here for more photos. -Report/photos by Chris Garlock
