MontCo Unions Host Budget Summit

Tuesday, November 6, 2007

Unions representing the families of more than 30,000 public employees in Montgomery County are hosting a “Budget Summit” and rally this Wednesday. State Senators and Delegates have been invited to join County residents, union members and leaders to discuss concerns and priorities in the current debate over closing the state budget gap. “This is big,” says Doug Menapace of UFCW Local 1994 MCGEO, “the results may affect funding for all public sector collective bargaining agreements in the state of Maryland.”  The unions support “a sustainable solution” that includes closing corporate tax loopholes, the proposed progressive income tax and “a substantial state revenue reform package.” The unions hosting the Summit are UFCW 1994 MCGEO, SEIU 500, the Montgomery County Education Association, Fire Fighters 1664 and the Montgomery County Association of Administrative and Supervisory Personnel.
