Wal-Mart Puts the Scare in Halloween

Tuesday, October 30, 2007

Claiming that Wal-Mart's "scary relationship" with China puts families, children and pets at risk, local activists will leaflet the Germantown WalMart on Halloween. Supporters in over 30 cities and towns across the country, many in Halloween costumes, will be protesting at Wal-Mart stores in their local area, as part of WakeUpWalmart's "Nothing's Scarier Than Wal-Mart and China" campaign. Organized locally by UFCW/MCGEO Local 1994, the Halloween protest will feature flyers highlighting "the frightening fact that more than 70 percent of goods on Wal-Mart's shelves come from China," according to the local, which notes that in the past year, more than 20 dangerous products from China have been pulled from Wal-Mart's shelves. "These product recalls - ranging from baby bibs to children's toys to dog biscuits - have spooked American consumers nationwide," says Local 1994.
