MD State Fed Calls for Long-Term Deficit Solution

Monday, October 29, 2007

The Maryland State Fed voted last Thursday to support Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley's call for a special session and the goal of arriving at a long-term solution to Maryland's budget deficit.  "Maryland is the wealthiest state in the United States, yet we spend the lowest percentage of that income on government services," said State Fed President Fred Mason. "We need a fair and equitable revenue structure and sufficient funding to protect the quality of life for all Marylanders." On the controversial issue of slots, the State Fed reaffirmed its support for "video lottery terminals and other gaming devices at those facilities where we have signed agreements including card check neutrality and project labor agreements."
