BUSH TO KIDS: WHO CARES? The House failed to overturn President Bush’s veto of healthcare for kids yesterday, reports Mike Hall of the AFL-CIO Now Blog. “It is truly devastating for America’s working families that a small faction in Congress put party politics above their obligation to America’s children,” said AFL-CIO President John Sweeney following the vote. “There is simply no justifiable reason for voting against health care for children. The State Children’s Health Insurance Program has been a great success.” The President’s veto was “out of step with the vast majority of Americans—including Republicans—who backed the bill,” reports Hall.
