Baris Recognized as EJC Community Partner

Friday, October 12, 2007

Calling her "the hardest working activist in Washington," DC Employement Justice Center (DC EJC) Deputy Executive Director Karen Minatelli awarded DC Jobs with Justice Coordinator Mackenzie Baris the DC Employment Justice Center's Outstanding Community Partner Award on Thursday, noting that Baris and JWJ have been tireless supporters of worker rights in the District. New York Times columnist Randy Cohen (The Ethicist) was the keynote speaker, with a humorous and hard-hitting address on how few workers today know about their rights. "My readers think workers have no free speech or privacy rights on the job," Cohen said, thanking EJC for being a reliable source of accurate, "if depressing" information about legal rights. The annual EJC luncheon was co-founder Judi Conti's last as Executive Director and incoming Executive Director Melvina Ford led an impressive array of thanks to Conti for her years of advocacy for DC workers.
