Domestic Workers Demand Rights

Friday, October 12, 2007

Domestic workers, students, and activists take to the streets Saturday at 12:30P to demand rights and respect for domestic workers and an end to diplomatic immunity in cases of domestic worker abuse. “Domestic Workers do important work and provide essential help to millions of families across the country – this work deserves respect,” says Casa de Maryland and the Coalition to Support Domestic Workers. Many domestic workers are paid lower than minimum wage and suffer from abuse at the hands of the families they work hard to provide care for. But workers have begun to organize, forming the National Alliance of Domestic Workers this summer at the US Social Forum and organizing rescue raids to help fellow workers escape abusive employers. The rally and march will start at the State Department and will continue to the Organization of American States.
