Inspirational Loach

Thursday, October 11, 2007

Amalgamated Limo's Perry Levin credits Ken Loach for sparking his lifetime love of movies. "I saw Loach's 'Poor Cow' in October of '68 while on leave in Australia as a 21-year-old serving in Vietnam, says the DC Labor FilmFest sponsor. "I didn't know anything about Loach, but the girl I went with suggested it and there's a scene toward the end of 'Poor Cow' where the main characters speak directly into the camera about their feelings and that really made an impression and just stuck in my mind," Levin tells UNION CITY. "In the service, you could see movies just about every night for thirty-five cents, and I found myself going to more and more movies, looking for particular filmmakers, and staying to read the credits." Almost exactly forty years later, Levin is looking forward to seeing "Poor Cow" again when it screens at the DC Labor FilmFest, although he's disappointed he won't get a chance to chauffeur the director himself - who had to cancel his appearance around town tonight when the Labor FilmFest premieres Loach's brand new film "It's A Free World…" at the FilmFest's Opening Night.
